I've been wondering about that key change for years! Not why it goes down instead of up, but why it doesn't change at all in the movie version. No reason I can think of makes sense.
If could ask Babs one question, that'd be it. Incidentally, I read an interview with Johnny Mandel recently where he talks about how Streisand like to modulate down a semitone, and explained his technique for making it sound exciting.

Seth:
I've attended the Gypsy of the Year and Bonnet and totally enjoyed your hosting of these AND I learned cool stuff from you. I am so happy to have discovered your blog. I will be a regular visitor. Your deconstructions will make me a more astute listener.
